Vivendi ain't afraid of no promotion

Vivendi has the right idea when it comes to marketing their upcoming Ghostbusters game. What they did was take this Ecto-1 (which, if you haven't guessed, is the Ghostbuster transportation vehicle of choice) and bring it on down to the local Best Buy to start drumming up attention for the upcoming game. Thankfully, website Ghostbuster Fans was on hand to take pictures of the vehicle (like, a lot of pictures), giving us a glimpse at the whole outside and inside of the vehicle.

Hit them up here for the delicious eye candy.

GameQuest Direct offers sales on No More Heroes and Scarface

Those of you who visit this site often probably know that we're big fans of No More Heroes. If you haven't made the plunge to purchase the game yet, though, this might be a good week to do so.

From what we've heard, the game is selling pretty well, so it may be a while before it comes down in price. Luckily, GameQuest Direct is selling the title for $8 less than the $50 retail cost, meaning that it will only set you back $41.99. Sweetening the deal is a free shipping promotion through CAG. Once you add the game to your cart, just make sure to type the promotion code CAG1SHIP in the box at the bottom left corner.

If you're craving a mature Wii game but No More Heroes is still too expensive for your taste, you can also get Scarface for $24.99. The free shipping promotion applies to this title, too, so make sure to use it if you decide to buy the game.

Caveat: These sales end on March 18th, so if you're considering these purchases, make sure not to wait too long.

WRUP: Chronicling your gameplay edition

This week's new releases cater to three very niche groups of gamers: those that enjoy the movie ti-in, those that enjoy virtual horses and those that enjoy singing. Are any of these games on your radar? Have you picked any of them?

As for us, we have a review to get done on The Spiderwick Chronicles. So, we'll be trying to get through that as much as we can. Also, we're still trying to climb those UAA ranks ...

More Geometry Wars on the Wii is a possibility

Roger Carpenter, the Senior Producer at Vivendi Games, recently talked about the future of Geometry Wars (and whether it involved the Wii) in an interview with Cubed3. Carpenter said the decision to make a new Geometry Wars for the Wii would depend on "how much the public liked [Geometry Wars: Galaxies]," which we assume is a euphemism for "how well the game sells."

Wii Ware is also a possibility for a new Geometry Wars, but Carpenter wants to wait and see how successful the service becomes before considering that option.

For those of you who like Geometry Wars, would you want to see another version for the Wii? Or do you prefer the game on the DS and XBLA?

Wii Fanboy Review: The Legend of Spyro: The Eternal Night

I'm going to be honest with you: this is the first Spyro game I've actually completed. I remember playing a friend's copy of the original Spyro back on the original Playstation in bits and pieces, here and there, but never sitting down to actually play through the entire title. Platformers were never my favorite genre, so at a time where my age limited my game selection (developers didn't want to send me copies for review when I was a teenager, sadly), I often overlooked titles that were considered good or great by the mainstream.

And, based on what I've read and heard of past Spyro games, I can confidently say that The Legend of Spyro: Eternal Night fails to fill the shoes left by its predecessors.

Fanswag reminder: You only have hours left

You like free stuff, right? Well, then maybe you would like to enter our giveaway we have running right now. Today is your last day to do so. And we're dying to give this stuff away, because our closet is too full of the corpses of fallen comrades, who gave their lives for a very good cause.

So, be sure to head on over to the contest post (we'll link it again for you) and get your entry in before 11:59pm EST tonight. Oh, and remember: one entry per person. We'd hate for you to be disqualified.

Wii Fanswag: Crash of the Titans and Wii skins

We don't get to do this as often as we'd like, but when we do, oh how much we love it. This week, we're giving away Crash of the Titans (valued at $50) for the Wii, along with two sets (each valued at $15) of Wii skins from Red Beard. The two different skins are the Fiery Red Beard and Warrior designs (you can check those out here). So, here's the prize breakdown:
  • Grand prize winner will receive our review copy of Crash of the Titans (this means it lacks shrinkwrap) and the Fiery Red Beard Wii skin
  • Runner-up will receive the Warrior Wii skin
So, how do you enter? Well, leave us a comment telling us what your favorite Crash Bandicoot game is and you're in. You can only enter once, so don't try and post more than one comment or else you'll be disqualified. Also, you've got to be 18 years of age and a resident of the United States (sorry, International readers!). The contest will be open from now until Thursday, October 25th at 11:59PM EST. Comments after then will be disqualified and we'll notify you all as to who the winners are come Friday.

Winners will be chosen at random. Please read the official rules before entering. Good luck and thanks for reading Wii Fanboy!

Wii Fanboy Review: Crash of the Titans

For Crash of the Titans, a lot is on the line. It is looked to by some as the title that will bring the franchise back to its roots to bask once again in the glory of the entries of old. And, in a lot of ways, Crash of the Titans does just that. But, as a title on the Wii, it can also be seen as a failure to capitalize on the best aspect the console has to offer: controls.

While it's quite comical when the cursor is changed during cutscenes to funny shapes such as a mustache, allowing you to make a few jokes at the game's characters' expense, none of the game's controls feel suited to the Wii. They don't feel as if they were set with the Wii in mind, lovingly crafted to take advantage of a console feature so rich that it's the very reason for the existence of said console. But, that doesn't mean the controls are flawed, it just means that you aren't getting anything particularly better or special in your choice to play this game on the Wii above its competitors.

Mastering Minions in Crash of the Titans

This latest trailer for Crash of the Titans has us damn excited for the game. It's not taking control of minions so much that has us all excited, but just the desire for some platforming action on the Wii. We know we'll get quite the fix when a certain other game comes out, but this might not be such a bad diversion while we wait for that other game.

What do you all think?

Tony Montana doesn't lose his lust for violence on the Wii

Don't try and tell us the movie isn't great, we might have to pop you one in the gut just like Mel. And, like Mel, we're sure you won't be able to get yourself one of those one-way tickets to the Resurrection. But, enough about the movie, what about this game business?

The trailer, which is available past the post break, is chock full of violence, cursing and gameplay footage. And, someone gets eaten by a Tiger.

Stash the llelo -- Tony Montana's coming to Wii

Start planning your best variation of "Say hello to my Wii little friend" now, because you're probably going to hear it. A lot, in fact, because Scarface: The World is Yours is joining The Godfather in the new pantheon of violent Wii games.

Unsurprisingly, the Wiimote will function as a pointing device for aiming in shooting sequences, same as with Red Steel, but the best part of the game announcement is the fact that players will also get to wield the Wii remote as a chainsaw (if you have buddies named Angel, they may find this unsettling). Beyond that, however, details are next to none, but we'll keep you updated.

No Crash Bandicoot after all

Make that unconfirmed -- sometimes even we here at Wii Fanboy get caught up in the excitement of the rumor mill. Matt Casamassina of IGN reports that the Vivendi rep they spoke with pulled no punches, calling the Wii connection "rubbish." That doesn't mean it isn't possible, however. Vivendi claims to be looking at all consoles for their next box-busting foray, and Wii is, in fact, a console. We're pretty sure it is, at least.

Can't say we're terribly surprised that this rumor has been Crash-bashed, though a good game using the Wiimote might inject a little new life into the struggling series.

Confirmed: Crash Bandicoot coming to Wii

Old school.
At one point, Crash Bandicoot was the closest thing Sony had to a true mascot for their system. Over the years, as our favorite marsupial's popularity has waned, he's made appearances on several other systems, including Nintendo's own DS. At a recent demonstration for Crash Boom Bang!, a party title for the DS, a Vivendi spokesperson confirmed that the company has plans to bring the series to the Wii.

Although unconfirmed, the spokesperson seemed to imply that the Wii title would also be a party-style game. Vivendi is planning for a 2007 release.
