Sadness website does nothing to dispel vaporware rumors

Hold on, what's all this? A Sadness rumor that actually came true? This can't be right -- and it sort of isn't. The website is there, and it's got stuff on it, but the stuff is old and it's a pretty amateur attempt at a website. It's just, you would think that the creators of the most talked-about Wii game pretty much ever would make the effort to put together a good show, but it looks somewhat awful.

The screens are old and tiny, the text is formatted all wrong (and translated poorly), and there is no trailer, although it will be "Coming soon (this vacation maybe)." Maybe? Maybe? Whatever.

To top it off, the release is scheduled for Fall 2009. That is, over a year from now. On the plus side, Nibris representatives will be attending the Leipzig Game Convention this year, so if nothing turns up at E3 we might find something there.

Inconsequential Sadness news #287 -- website, more details 'coming'

There's nothing left to say. Sadness is the definition of sadness, and it always will be. We'll post about this "news", oh yes -- but until a physical copy of the game is actually in a Nintendo Wii console, right in front of us and running properly, we won't be certain of its existence. Forward motion is a myth.

The latest on Sadness is thus: the official website will be launched next week, along with some new images. A chap from Fog Studios (because they're so damn hazy on the details) says it's all real, and Nibris is still working away without a publisher. The lack of a publisher means a lack of a release date. If the game exists.

Rest assured, if any of the above actually happens, we will let you know. We know what a promise from anyone remotely associated with Sadness is worth, so don't hold your breath.

Tracking Wii Fit's online availability

Did you neglect to preorder Wii Fit or pick it up on launch day, yet still want to buy Nintendo's much hyped fitness title? Then you might have noticed that it's pretty hard to find, depending on where you live. If eBay is any indication of the market's general trends, though, supply is currently not meeting the game's demand.

Should you want to avoid the hassle of calling all your local stores and waiting on lines, you might want to utilize zooLert. The website updates every two minutes, checking all the major online retailers that are selling Wii Fit. You can have the site email you when the game is in stock online, or even add the feed to your RSS so that you don't have to constantly watch the page.

Procrastinators, this one's for you.

My Life in the Everyone's Kingdom website

My Life as a King fan, are you? Then you'll be happy to know that Square Enix created a love-fest site for the game, in which you take a break from being the king and become the adventurer instead.

When you first enter the site (assuming you've logged into your Square Enix Member's account), you'll be greeted by a quiz that will determine your job (this blogger sadly conjured up the lamest of the lame jobs, the white mage). Once you have a job and a house, you can dally around the town.

Different places in the virtual kingdom let you do various things. At the castle, you can write questions, comments, or thoughts about the game to its developers. Throughout the town you can also check out the bulletin to see the "king's behests," download some goodies (like screen savers), see other members' "houses," and other random stuff.

The website is a nice idea for fan service, but to be honest, there's no reason to spend more than five minutes there at the moment. Hopefully Square Enix will add some more neat things to it soon.

Alone in the Dark website is intentionally unsettling

Central Park is a place full of creepy things and pervs. At least, that's what the Alone in the Dark website would have you believe.

Before yesterday, CentralDark was just a teaser site. In order to promote its upcoming game, though, Atari has recently added some rather disturbing stories about Central Park to the game's official website. The site is scheduled to be updated with articles every two weeks until the game's release in May.

Also, on a personal note: This blogger grew up relatively close to Central Park, and it's a pretty nice place. Hear that, potential visitors? Don't let this marketing scare you. (This post was paid for by the New York Department of Tourism.*)

*Not really.

Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon site gets updated

The Japanese website for Chocobo's Mysterious Dungeon (you know, that game starring that delicious looking cute little yellow bird) has been updated, provided the internet surfer looking for more juicy content just what they desire most. No, it isn't a fabulous recipe for extra crispy, deep fried Chocobo (is it so wrong that we spend a lot of time thinking about how delicious a fictional creature is?), it's new stuff about the upcoming game.

There is new screens, some art and a closer look at the different job classes on over at the site, so give it a look.

Forever Blue launches site (with actual content)

The "actual content" we speak of is none other than several small videos, each of which covers some of Forever Blue's (or Endless Ocean to us English-speaking folk) many aspects. The last video, which is much too short for our liking, even gives us a look at the co-op diving promised by the title. Other videos highlight the perfectly normal diving technique of petting and poking every underwater lifeform you come across.

We can't wait to play this game! How about all of you?

New My Sims trailer and site

EA's reimagining of The Sims (aka their take on Animal Crossing) is headed to the US, and there's a brand new English website complete with the cutest trailer you'll probably ever see, game details, and a few screenshots. The trailer is a must-see, and we've tucked it away after the jump for your viewing pleasure. We've already seen most of the other content on the website, but these adorable chibi Sims never get old.

MySims is also slated for the DS, but don't get too excited ... it'll be months before we see this one on shelves.

Fire Emblem Wii site opens for business

Cooooool
Fire Emblem
is not like Ice Emblem in that it is, well, hot. When a small portal opened, leading to just a subsection of its fiery domain, we could not resist.

The official site for Fire Emblem: Akatsuki no Megami has opened for business, and yes, its entirely in Japanese. For your viewing pleasure, though, you might check out this bitchin' opening cinema, and some excellent box art. We're such suckers for box art. In any case, any FE fans out there owe it to themselves to journey to yon fiery realm. You won't be disappointed.

(And what the hell was Bahamut doing in that cinema?)

Opera browser optional?

A message in my alpha-bits.The official Nintendo of Japan website was recently updated with some new information. Thanks to the Babel Fish, implanted in the skulls of all Wii Fanboy staff members, an accurate translation is as follows.
  • 512MB of internal flash memory for storing applications, data, etc.
  • Opera browser (optional)
  • Short start-up times for applications stored in flash memory, such as virtual console games and the browser.
That's interesting. Nintendo will certainly not offer two retail packages that differ only in the inclusion of a piece of software, and we doubt the browser will be sold as a traditional game at retail outlets. Therefore, the probable scenario is that Nintendo will offer the Opera browser as a download through their Virtual Console service, and most likely make you pay to do it. While we gnash our teeth, we also understand that those guys at Opera want a piece of the pie...and hopefully, it won't be terribly expensive.
