Animales de la Muerte set for WiiWare

It generally doesn't take much more than a "zombie" descriptor to pique our interest in a game, but High Voltage Software (the folks behind The Conduit) went even further than that for Animales de la Muerte. Not only are they making a WiiWare game about the undead, which they aim to release in September, but even better (or at least, different) -- it's about zombie animals in a Mexican zoo.

High Voltage summed up the premise of this cartoonishly zany game more cleverly than we could by saying, "Now, wandering freely through the zoo, the rotting beasts are no longer content with eating visitor scraps they get tossed into their cages -- instead they prefer to eat the whole visitor."

Not only do you have to kill the zombified animals, but you also have to save the poor creatures that have not yet succumbed to the outbreak. Funnily enough, the undead animals drop pesos when you kill them, which can be used to upgrade your weapons. As for the controls, the game is essentially a point-and-shoot action title, putting the Wiimote to good use. There's also a co-op mode where you can play with up to four people, if you're not shut-ins like us.

We posted some goodies after the break, including a hilarious trailer, so make sure to take a look.

Circuit City: House of the Deal

Sega's budget port just got cheaper! Circuit City has marked down its copies of House of the Dead 2 & 3 to $19.99, $10 less than the game's usual going rate. Since you're really buying two arcade shooters with this bundle and not one, it's like you're spending only $10 each for two zombie-packed titles. And who doesn't love zombies?

Honestly, if you don't love zombies, you're no friends of ours.

Sega: More Dead games if you buy 2 & 3 Return

According to JeuxFrance, Sega is dangling quite the juicy carrot in front of our faces. They say that should enough people pick up House of the Dead 2 & 3 Return, they'll hook us Wii gamers up with House of the Dead 4. Not only that, but they're supposedly promising to bring the Typing of the Dead games to the console, as well.

We're going to keep this labeled as a rumor, for the time being. Why? Well, it's not like JeuxFrance sources anything for this bit of information, so we're going to remain a bit skeptical, even though we'd love for Sega to hook us up with more Dead games.

GDC08: Zombies in space

Not much can compare to some good old-fashioned zombie shooting. Add a space station and a light gun to that formula, though, and you're guaranteed to come away with something special.

Siliconera's Spencer Yip, the lucky guy, got to try his hand at Forbidden Terror on Space Station Z at the Game Developers Conference. While we'd like to say we aren't brimming with envy, that would be a flat-out lie. This may not be the next "Game of the Year" (although it will be in our hearts), and it's actually not even a game (just a tech demo, unfortunately). Yet, it involves shooting zombies in space -- and at the end of the day, that's all we really want in life.

As if that wasn't enough, we're completely smitten by the title of Forbidden Terror on Space Station Z. Why is terror forbidden? Our own Eric Caoili suggested that they might be attending an intense seminar at the space station on getting over their fears.

While there wasn't much to the demo, Spencer described it as "amusing" and "pretty entertaining." Unfortunately, it may never actually turn into a full-fledged game. Spencer asked Emergent Technologies if they would consider releasing this for Wii Ware, however, and they seemed willing if they could work something out. Here's hoping!

Oneechanbara: the Revolution has been televised

Oneechanbara Revolution does indeed look much better in motion than in stills, losing the awful scanline look that has made us question whether D3 should have been releasing screens at all. In motion, Revolution actually looks quite a bit better than the original PS2 game -- not only graphically, but in terms of smooth movements and combos. Initial impressions make it seem that the game actually has quality this time, and that the new controls are fun (if tiring). Even though we were less than totally enthused with the PS2 game, we could see ourselves really enjoying some blood-soaked waggle combat with this.

After the break, there are two more videos, including a demonstration of co-op gameplay. These videos, as well as the one above, are very violent and bloody and absolutely for adults only and not safe for work. If your mom or boss is severely disappointed in you, don't blame us.

Wii Warm Up: Your fears

In honor of Halloween later this month, we thought we would take some time to ask about your fears. Oh, not in general (though if you're also planning for the eventual zombie apocalypse, we'll talk strategy and escape routes later), but rather, your fears and worries about upcoming Wii games. There's always some little worry about possible disappointments, even with dependable franchises and developers, and more when the concepts are untried or untested. So tell us what worries you this morning, and let's try to assuage each others' fears.

And hey, it's okay if it's just little things, like maybe you're worried about Super Mario Galaxy because you didn't think Super Mario Sunshine was all that, or you're afraid everyone will suddenly start using the Zapper, but you hate it. You're among friends here (mostly). We'll try not to judge.

Fresh UC screens show Ken doll zombies

Sometimes a zombie is just going to be naked. We've all been there, fighting for our life against a horde of the undead, only to find one or more of them lacking clothes. It's pretty funny for a moment, then we've all got back to the dispatching of the undead. Old hat, we know.

But these new Umbrella Chronicles screens are the stuff of nightmares. Naked zombies taking on a sort of doll-like appearance, lacking any kind of gender definition whatsoever? Man, that's all kinds of scary. Oh, and the mutant monkies aren't exactly the stuff of pleasant dreams, either.

Umbrella Chronicles images move from scans to the screen

If you saw these scans the other day and thought, "wow, I'd love to see those screens," then this post's for you. Dengeki Online has that very thing -- the latest in Umbrella Chronicles shots. If they're just cleaned up, then it's a very good job. Regardless, we're happy to get a closer look at some of the images! Head on over if you want to see for yourself.

Resident Evil: Impressions Chronicles

GayGamer recently got a chance to play Capcom's Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, which pulls old RE stories from their graves and reanimates them as segments of a rail shooter. Unlike previous Resident Evil spinoff games, this one seems like it's going to be okay.

They were especially pleased with the treatment of the story-- since the Resident Evil series has traditionally had a good story element, this game has a leg up over other zombie-filled shooting games. Nobody will have to suffer like G did.

The Nunchuk use also received praise-- being able to look around freely with the joystick just lets you do more in each area, allowing the players to search for hidden items, aim shots more accurately, and choose paths.

Night of the Living Wii Remote

Were it our decision, the streets would be choked with the undead, suffocated by their sloth and numbers. What little remained of the human race would have to go into hiding, their once-magnificent kingdoms now ruled by zombie majesty. It's a terrible vision that we hold onto in our heads every night before drifting off to sleep, hoping to carry it along with us in our dreams.

Given our affection for the undead here at the Fanboy offices, we couldn't pass up mentioning this month's cover of Official Nintendo Magazine. The issue advertises May's Resident Evil features with a corpse hand breaking through its earthen grave. Gripped by cold, gray fingers, a Wii remote kicks back into life, properly strapped to the undeceased's wrist. Head past the post break for a better look, but take care not to attract the attention of brain-eating revenants on your way inside.

Famitsu reveals Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, confirms RE4 port [update 1]

[Update 1: fixed the name of the DS game. Thanks, SnesR0X, and no thanks to the many similar DS-game subtitles!]

It's been a while since we had a directed blurry-Famitsu-picture staredown, and this one is, as usual, totally worth staring at. Famitsu printed a long-awaited look at Capcom's Resident Evil Umbrella Chronicles, the Wii-exclusive RE-series-spanning game.

According to the article, it's a first-person gun shooting game with playable characters from past REs including Chris, Jill, Wesker, and others. Whether it's a true FPS or an on-rails affair like Resident Evil: Dead Aim remains to be seen.

Also in Famitsu was confirmation that Resident Evil 4 is getting an enhanced Wii release. Rumor has it that all the PS2 extras will be included, but the only definite is an added Wiimote-controlled knife mode. Sounds like RE Deadly Silence on the DS.

[Thanks, zshadow!]

Zombies and Turtles found on ESRB

Impossibly difficult.More ESRB hints abound, as the website known for destroying the dreams of excessively violent young children is now listing two more heavy-hitters for the Wii's Virtual Console service. First up is the SNES cult-classic Zombies Ate My Neighbors, which nicely fills up the senseless-violence-involving-zombies genre that the Wii was heretofore lacking.

Next up? The game none of you ever beat. Yes, the original mind-numbingly difficult Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the NES appears to be slated for a shiny white console near you, and this time, we're gonna finish that game once and for all.

We hope.
